Turning #TraditionallySouthside

Revival is all about turning/returning to God. It is about new life rising from the ashes of death – death to the old way. Revival only comes when we humble ourselves before a Holy God, pray in such a way that we agonize over our sin, seek God’s approval with all of our hearts, and repent. Not just say we are sorry for our sins but to say, “God, I’m broken-hearted over my sin, and I don’t ever want to do that again.” That’s what repentance is: turning away from our sin and turning to God. Being raised to walk in that newness of life. Revival means to be brought back from the dead.

Listen, we’ve got to get serious with God and start using the spiritual sense God has given us. The fact that we face a growing spiritual darkness in our land indicates that the light of Jesus is not shining brightly. Jesus said that His disciples are the light of the world. When the light of Christ is dimmed by the sins and cares of the world on the lives of God’s people, darkness increases. It is our fault because we have not made confession before God. When God’s people are clean vessels, cleansed through repentance and confession, the light displayed through them causes darkness to flee. We take back the spiritual authority from Satan and we restore God to His proper place in our lives, in our churches, and in our world.

God is looking for holy people through whom He can work to reveal Himself to a watching world. God needs clean vessels–He needs clean people and churches. According to God’s pattern for revival and spiritual awakening, spiritual awakening in the land waits for the repentance and revival of God’s people. No one desires it more than God, but He has chosen to work through His people to bring about world redemption and spiritual awakening. The healing of our nation is waiting for God’s people to repent and be revived.

Listen, to me, my friends. God wants to again pour out His spirit on all flesh. He wants to make the church the place of deliverance. He wants to send to us another great awakening. But it’s going to require us crying out to God “with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.” I think we need to quit playing the games of religion and get serious with God again. I think we need to feel God’s pain over our sin and cry out to Him for mercy.

That’s what the prophet Joel means when he writes, “Rend your heart, and not your garments.” Don’t settle for the outward show of remorse. Don’t just go through the motions. Feel the pain of a broken-hearted father over the rebellion of his wayward child. Experience the sorrow God feels each time one of His children sins against Him. Cry out to Him in repentance and experience the promise of I John 1:8,9. If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Are you ready? Are you willing? I know God is able, but He waits for us to stop playing games and get right with Him.
