Blessed Beyond Measure. #TraditionallySouthside

Wow! What a day! The phone call came at 2:30 a.m. They have gone to the hospital. The contractions are coming regularly. You have time, though, so get some more sleep. At 4:30 a.m., I had enough, so I hit the road in the rain and fog, but I made good time. Pensacola is not a long way from Decatur, but it is long enough when your baby is having a baby. Fortunately, I made it in plenty of time to help Sonya take care of Lucy. Other than Lily being over 10 pounds, there were absolutely no problems, but that is easy for me to say. I wasn’t giving birth without the aid of any drugs. I am so impressed with how tough Ashley is. Actually I’m impressed with how strong both of my girls are as they have handled the difficulties of life. We are truly blessed.

As I sit here in the very early hours of Wednesday morning listening to the winds blow, the after effects of a devastating storm system that spawned tornadoes that have caused great destruction along the Gulf Coast, I am praising the Lord and giving Him great thanks. As the tornado sounded as if it went directly over us last night, I sat in the hallway with Sonya, Jennifer, Hayes, and Lucy. We sang songs. We watched Word World on my phone, and we prayed. The sound of the wind, rain, and things being blown around and into the side of the house was incredible, but my girls were so brave. Hayes told me she was brave and scared, but she didn’t know what to call that. Jennifer told her, “That’s courage.” She is so right. The most courageous people experience fear, but courage is what keeps them going. Courage that comes from a sense of God’s presence knowing that we rest in His hands!

Thank you, Lord!
